Orrin Karl Kartchner, Jr. was born April 22, 1922 in Malad, Idaho to Orrin Karl and Margaret Laws Kartchner. He passed away at home on Monday, May 14, 2012. Orrin married Bertha Anderson October 25, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He graduated from Davis High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific as a mechanic in the 289th Medium Mobile Maintenance. He watched the signing of the WWII peace agreement with Japan through field glasses from an adjacent ship. Orrin retired from Hill A.F.B. after 34 years. He was active in scouting in the ward, stake and district. Orrin received the Silver Beaver scouting award for his service. He saved two people''s lives with his knowledge of C.P.R. His hobby was fixing tractors and making them run like new. He shared his knowledge of tractor repair with many. He was a High Priest in the Taylor Fourth Ward. He served as a Family History Missionary along with his wife for 14 years. Orrin is survived by his wife, Bertha; sons, Glenn (Debbi), Lloyd (Myra), Wayne (Jackie), Val; one brother, George Kartchner; 16 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Dale; a daughter-in-law, Julie; parents; three sisters: Ellen Kartchner, Nora McFadden, and Linda Sacco; and brother, Dean Kartchner. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 18th at 11 a.m. at the Taylor 4th Ward Chapel at the corner of 4300 W 2200 S, Ogden. The family will meet with friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W 5600 S and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
