O. Noel Jensen
Orson Noel Jensen, 76, passed away on February 7, 2011 at his home from complications of a long and courageous battle with Parkinson''s Disease.
He was born July 9, 1934 in East Midvale, Utah to Orson William and Mary Iona Freeman Jensen. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1952. In his youth he established a brotherhood of special friends that has continued through the many years since. Determined to get a college education, he worked at the Kennecott Mine to finance his schooling at the University of Utah where he received a B.S. degree in 1956 and an M.B.A. degree in 1957. He served in the Utah Air National Guard. He married his eternal companion, Grace Verna Klein on June 12, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. Upon graduation he worked for Shell Oil Company in San Francisco 1957-60. Desiring to return to the mountains he loved so much and to be close to family, returned back to Salt Lake City where he worked for L3 Communications in defense contracting, retiring in 2000.
His life was one of devotion and caring for his family and neighbors and faithfulness to his membership in the LDS faith where he served as a Bishop of the Columbus Ward, High Councilor, Webelos leader, Sunday School and Primary teacher, faithful home teacher, priesthood leader, and temple worker in the Bountiful Temple for thirteen years. He served in the community as a reading tutor in the elementary schools and as a volunteer along with his wife in the American Parkinson''s Disease Association as board members and support group leaders.
He was known for his love of nature and taught his family an appreciation for camping, fishing, and hiking. His study, knowledge, and love of the Holy Scriptures and his sensible wisdom that came from his life''s experiences were legendary. He found great happiness in reading, gardening, history, travel and home improvements.
