Orson Ray Layton CLEARFIELD - Orson Ray Layton, 77, passed away at the University of Utah Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer, on Saturday, September 13, 2008 surrounded by his family. He was born April 30, 1931 to Delbert and Annabelle Bodily Layton in Layton, Utah. Ray married Shirley Rae Barnum on December 5, 1952 in Clearfield. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Shirley passed away June 5, 1997. Ray retired from HAFB after thirty seven years as a Photo Equipment Specialist; he has been currently working for Davis County Schools as Special needs Attendant. Ray was raised and educated in Layton and graduated from Davis High School. He served his country in the U.S. Marines Semper-Phi and was an active member of the LDS Church. He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting and spending time in the out doors. A man’s man. He lived life with a great respect for others and a mentor to all who knew him. He took pride in being responsible, getting the job done, and doing the right thing. All who knew him knew him to be the most unselfish man. Survived by four daughters and one son, Terrie (Mark) Thornley, Layton; Kim (Jody) Trujillo, Syracuse; Lori (Jeff) Bowen, Reno, NV; Julie Weese, Reno, NV; DelRay (Stephanie) Layton, Clearfield. 23grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one sister, Carla Moody, and five brothers, Robert, Gail, Clark, Kent and Craig. Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, parents, one grandson, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
