Orval Jordan "O.J." Barnes
Layton, Utah - Orval Jordan "O.J." Barnes, 88, returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
OJ was born on July 17, 1922 in Evanston, Wyoming to John Almy and Harriet "Hattie" Barnes. He married Dorothy Crawford in 1940 and they had six children, they later divorced. In 1963, he married Effie Thurgood Barnes who also had six children. In 1943, OJ was drafted into WWII. He was a member of the 101 "Screamin'' Eagles" Airborne Division.
OJ is survived by his loving wife, Effie; sister: Donna Larson; brothers: Lamar (Faye), Bud (Joyce) , and Bill (Lynn); children: Connie (Ron) Basinger; SanDee (Merlyn) Bodily; Bruce Barnes; Peggy (Vern) Child; Randy (Colleen) Nielsen; Cindi (Trent) Draper; Alene Lowry; Leo (Teresa) Barnes; Sandra (David) Crosland; Ellen (Mel) Maynes; Sharon (Frank) Schofield; Stana (Alden) Martinez; 58 Grandchildren, 142 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Wilma Padgent and brother Garth Barnes.
OJ was a faithful member of the LDS church. His happiest days were spent fishing with his Uncle Willis or spending time on the farm. He loved being with his children and grandchildren and they were his pride and his joy! OJ was loved by many and he will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Layton Park West Ward, 1715 W. 1600 No. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
