Orvel Hansen

Orvel Hansen Orvel Hansen passed away at home January 23, 2009. Born February 19, 1922 in Vernal, Utah to Raymond and Lula Caldwell Hansen. Married Ilene Johnson later divorced, married Jacqueline Wyrick in 1962. Orvel loved hunting and fishing and being outdoors, as a teenager he worked many of the ranches around Vernal and into Wyoming. At age 14 he and his cousin Jack would catch wild horses and sell them to the Army for $5 each, they would camp out in Brown’s Park from time to time with some of the areas more colorful characters. He once had a brush with royalty while at the Stevenson Ranch when Queen Anne came and stayed for dinner. At 19 he joined the Marines and fought in WWII and was on the island of Iwo Jima during the raising of the US flag. After his brave service to his country, Orvel returned to Utah and began his career as a plumber, work that he loved and was skillful at doing and would pass onto two of his sons. Orvel was a strong tough Marine but had a big heart and a gentle demeanor; He loved his family and close friends and would do anything for them. Survived by children Tom (Bonnie) Wenner, Norma (John) Skala, Barbra (David) VanDer Sander, Bill (Darlene) Hansen, Genie (Bert) Mortensen, Kevin (Kim) Hansen, and Russ Hansen, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and sister Betty Pickett. Preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline, son Derek Hall, parents, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 11:00 am at the First Southern Baptist Church, 696 N. 400 E., Bountiful where friends may call from 10:00 – 10:45 am prior to services.
