Orville Rupe, Jr.

Orville Rupe, Jr., 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. He was born on November 15, 1926, the sixth child of Orville and Margaret Moyes Rupe. Orville was born and raised in Ogden. He was a very athletic youth, loved baseball, and was a lifelong bowler who had bowled a perfect 300.
After high school he was drafted into the US Navy during World War II. He served honorably, but like many men of his generation, he was too humble to speak much of it. Upon returning home he went to work for Union Pacific and continued with the railroad until 1986.
Orville met Rose Walker and they were married on September 25, 1955 in Ogden. They were devoted in raising their family of five.
He continued bowling and also loved trips to Wendover. A social person who loved to watch high school and professional sports; he was very supportive of his grandchildren. Orville was a caring and generous man and loved his family deeply.
Orville is survived by his children, Sally (Larry) Daley, Hooper; Annie (Barry) Hunt, Sunset; Don Rupe, Morgan; and Penny (Doug) Loughlin, Layton; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Wainwright, Ogden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose of 29 years; son, John Rupe; great-grandson, Carlin Daley; and siblings, Dale Rupe, Marion Wadman, Margaret Stephens, and Doris Barto.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
