Oscar Thornock

Wayne passed away peacefully at home at age 87, surrounded by his family on February 5, 2016 due to natural causes.

He was born December 10, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Arvilla Minson and Oscar Levi Thornock and was an only child. He graduated from Caldwell Idaho High School and attended Utah State University. At age 19 he became engaged to his sweetheart, EuVola May Tilby of Boise, Idaho. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and accepted a call to serve as an LDS missionary to England from 1948 to 1950.

At the conclusion of his mission his parents and EuVola met his ship, the Queen Mary, in New York City and on the way home they were married in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on November 3, 1950. They were married for 53 years when EuVola passed away on his birthday, December 10, 2003. They had three children; Oscar Van Thornock, Chriscilla Mae Thornock Humpherys and Otho Nyle Thornock and a Navajo daughter Elouise Begay Fowler.

Wayne is survived by his children Van (Shari), Chris (Carl) and Elouise; Grandchildren: Justin Van (Heidi) Thornock, Cindy Linn (Mike) Woodbury, Jay Wyatt (Stephanie) Thornock, Cami Lee (Adam) Nicoll, Lisa Humpherys (Allan) Mecham, Michelle Humpherys Jensen, Heather Ann (Jason) Hansen, Clint Grant (Lorena) Humpherys, Michael Carl Humpherys, Aaron Nyle (Heidi) Thornock, Tyson Wayne (Jessica) Thornock, Riley Dan (Rebecca) Thornock and Chase Kenneth (Carly) Thornock and 44 Great Grandchildren.

Wayne began working at the young age of 5, selling magazines, ultimately winning the competition for most sales. So like him! He also worked for his fathers’ lumber supply business and as a grave digger in Caldwell Idaho. He always teased that where he worked, “he had a lot of people under him!” After marrying EuVola, he served in the Air National Guard for 10 years and became a banker. He worked in offices in Wilder and Marsing, Idaho. In 1959 he moved his family to Clearfield, Utah and began working at the Clearfield State Bank, which later became the Community First Bank. He became the Executive Vice President of the bank and loved working with people. Following retirement he went to work for the First National Bank of Layton and enjoyed that time immensely. He was known for his great sense of humor and generous heart. He served on the Clearfield City Council, the Davis County Library Board, in the Kiwanis Club and as a Bishop, a High Councilman and a Counselor in the Stake Presidency of the LDS Church in addition to many other callings in the Church. His passion was to travel and he saw this marvelous world first hand, exposing his family to the beauty and history of it all. He was planning another cruise right up to the last second!

He was preceded in death by his parents Arvilla and Oscar Thornock, his wife EuVola, his son Nyle, daughter-in-law Dana Orton and two great granddaughters Brooke Ramona Humpherys and Kennedy Ann Hansen.
