SYRACUSE a€" Jack Okelberry, 75, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 as a result of a stroke.

He was born on December 3, 1933 in Goshen, Utah, the son of Ned P. and Elva E. Ercanbrack Okelberry.

Jack graduated from Payson High School in 1952. He served an LDS Mission to Sweden from 1954 a€" 1956 and then served in the Army. He graduated from BYU in 1960.

Jack married Margaret E. Johnson on August 24, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple.

He taught school for 35 years in the Granite School District.

He was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities. Jack served as Elders Quorum President and High Priest Group Leader. He also served in the Bishopric and on the High Council. Jack enjoyed working with the youth and was a faithful Home Teacher. Jack and his wife served a mission in the Stockholm, Sweden Temple from 1999 a€" 2000. He also served in the Jordan River Temple.

He loved to hunt, camp and travel. Jack easily made friends everywhere he went. Jack will always be remembered for his optimism, work ethic and quick smile. He was beloved by all who knew him.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret, Syracuse; sons: Scott (Janet), Wellsville; Wade (Lisa), Syracuse; daughters: Tracy (Jeff) Simmons, Layton; Lori, Syracuse; eight grandchildren and sister, Coleen Simmons, Layton.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse South Bluff Chapel, 3024 S. 1200 W. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
