Otto Henry Schwede, Jr. passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in the loving care of George E. Wahlen Veterans home of natural causes.

Hank was born April 17, 1932 in Las Vegas, New Mexico the middle child of Otto Henry and Elanora Schwede. His sisters are Selma, Freida, Ruth and Dorothy.

On May 24, 1952 Hank married Mariam Cecille St. Amant in Biloxi, Mississippi and they were married 57 wonderful years.

He proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Then as a civil servant Master Sergeant for a devoted 35 years, retiring June 30, 1987.

Hank traveled the world during his service, living in Washington, Germany, Taiwan and many other locations. He was awarded the Hennessy Trophy for his work as Supervisor TSgt. of the Dragon Inn Dining Hall at Shu Lin Kou Air Station, Taiwan in 1972. He was also presented an Air Force Commendation Medal in 1962 for training and supervisory ability in the 401st supply squadron training programs ranging from food service to ammunitions. Hank truly enjoyed serving his country. He was well respected and deeply loved.

Hank settled down in Utah in the early 1970''s. He found a good home for his wife and six children. There was nothing he loved more than his family. To Hank nothing was stronger. He was a strong, stern man with an open heart, he was a hard worker with a no nonsense personality but he loved to play practical jokes. He would go out of his way to make you smile or help you however possible in a time of need, asking in return for only the same love and kindness he had given you.

Hank was a man''s man, He loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed woodwork, photography, a beautiful sunset and long drives through the mountains

Hank is survived by his daughters, Jerrie (Larry) Wilson, Nora Schwede, Patricia Lonnquist and Jeannie Tidwell, and son, Otto Schwede III; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mariam Schwede, daughter, Dee Dee Schwede and sisters, Selma and Freida.

He will always be remembered as our hero.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
