Owen Carl Sabin, age 81, our cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather returned home to his Heavenly Father, parents, and son Kenneth David on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 surrounded by his wife and family.
Carl was born on September 17, 1928, in Payson, Utah to Owen Lavern Sabin and Estella Maud Hatfield. He was the oldest of three children and spent most of his childhood in Salem, UT. At 16, his parents were killed in an auto-train accident, and Carl went to live in Helper with his Uncle Vern and Aunt Ruth. He then joined the Air Force in 1947, where he served honorably for three years.
Carl married his sweetheart Patsy Valee Stander on November 7, 1951 in the Logan Temple and has continued to love and honor her for 58 years and counting. Together they have four sons and a daughter, and have built a strong, beautiful family that continues to grow.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout his life, Carl fulfilled many callings and served faithfully in a bishopric, as scoutmaster, and later as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple.
Always in search of an adventure, Carl loved snowmobiling and hunting in Farmington Canyon. He also enjoyed dancing, snow skiing, boating, waterskiing, golf, football, basketball, refereeing sports, camping, and traveling in his motor home. In his later years he loved working and playing at Lagoon, where he treated his entire family to a fun day together each summer.
Carl was very gifted. He could fix anything and was the hardest worker since the pioneers. He instilled this strong work ethic in his children and grandchildren. These talents also helped him in his career as an electronic technician for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was friendly and social, always the first to arrive and the last to leave, and was adored by all who met him. He had a big heart and loved to serve family, friends, and anyone with car trouble or in need of a snowblower.
We love him dearly and will miss his antics and witty sense of humor, his sparkling blue eyes, and his heart of gold.
His legacy will be carried on by his wife, Patsy Valee Sabin; his children, Daniel Owen Sabin (Louise), Gary Lynn Sabin (Debbie), John Lavern Sabin (Sandi), and Mary Valee (Scott Bitter); Grandchildren, Ryan, Daren, Brandi, Rand, Shauna, Natalie, Devin, Gary II, Heather, Grayson, Gregory, Gordon, Megan, Jessica, Nicole, Amber, and grandkitty Felix; seventeen Great-grandchildren; and siblings, Deon Sutton (Rex), and Lynn Sabin (Barbara).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11 am in the Kaysville Utah East Stake Center, 201 South 600 East. Friends may call Friday, March 26th from 6-8 pm at the Lindquist Kaysville Mortuary, 400 No. Main or Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his name.
