Patricia Ruth Bott Hirschi
August 26, 1939 – February 24, 2017
Patricia Ruth Bott Hirschi slipped peacefully through the veil on Friday, February 24, and rejoined her husband of 57 years after a brief 10-month separation. She was surrounded by family in her home where she had waged a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Tremonton, Box Elder County, Utah on August 26, 1939, the eldest of Eugene and Norma Tingey Bott’s eight children, she married Max G. Hirschi in the Logan Temple on September 11, 1958. Together they raised seven children of their own. Over the years, they welcomed several foster children and many others into their home and treated them all as part of the family.
Patricia grew up on a farm where she learned hard work. She graduated from Box Elder High School and attended BYU. After raising her children she returned to school, graduating from LDS Business College with three associate degrees. She then ran Personalized Total Office Management from her home with a number of clients. She was involved with the Chamber of Commerce, the Utah Association of Women, the Davis County Republican Women, and the Davis High School PTA. She especially enjoyed being a part of Max’s 34-year CES teaching career.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she spent her life serving in all of the auxiliary organizations, and as a Church organist from the age of 15 until just a few years ago. She and Max served in the Washington D.C. North Mission from 1997 to 2000, as ordinance workers in the Bountiful LDS Temple, and as hosts at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. They also taught temple preparation courses to many and served together in the Apple Tree Retirement Center.
Mom’s greatest happiness was in her family. She loved having them around her and watching them grow. She and Max have 33 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren with more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, her parents (whom she cared for in her home during their final years), and her younger sisters Margaret Coleman and Kathleen Martin. She is survived by her children: Joseph (Carol-Lynne), Douglas (Kristen), RuthAnn Manning (Kyle), Clark (Deanna), Kenneth (Linda), Jonathan (Kim), Curtis (Becky); grandchildren; and her siblings Dorothy Neal, Elizabeth Price, and Heber, Richard, and Jim Bott.
Special thanks go to granddaughter Heather who lived with and cared for Mom this past year, to Brenda and Ashley of Summit Hospice, to Dr. Cory Ferguson, and to the University of Utah ALS clinic.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the LDS Church’s Perpetual Education or General Missionary Funds in Mom’s name.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Willow Pines Ward Chapel, 331 S. 50 W., Kaysville. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
