Patricia Anne Pieper McFerson graduated from this earthly life on September 25, 2023. We are grateful to all of those at Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield that cared for her so compassionately the last couple of years that she spent living there.
Patsy, as she was called growing up, was born on November 7, 1939 in Rexburg, Idaho to Albert Alber and Metta Pickett Pieper. She was the oldest of five children. A childhood without electronics meant she learned to play the piano, organ, violin, and flute. She learned to sew, cross stitch, knit, crochet, quilt, and embroider. She worked at Shirley’s hamburger stand during her lunch hour and many summer days before graduating from Madison High School.
Education was a big part of Pat’s life. She graduated from Ricks College with her Associate degree and then moved on to Utah State University where she completed both her Bachelor and Master degrees in business education. She began teaching school at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Eventually she ended up moving to Clearfield High School.
It was in Clearfield that she met her husband, Jed Dee McFerson, and thus ended up spending the rest of her life in Clearfield. They were married on June 12, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was committed to him and their marriage. She faithfully cared for him until his death in 2013. Four children were born into their home: Dee Anne, Laura Lee, Albert Jed, and Larry Dee. These children and the grandchildren that followed many many years later were truly the most important things in Pat’s life.
Pat has always been a hard worker. Upon the birth of her first child, she stopped teaching at Clearfield High School during the day and instead taught night classes. Through the course of the years she also taught piano lessons, made computer covers, substituted, and eventually went back to work full time at Weber State University where she taught for over 20 years. In addition to this she was a dedicated mother who spent time driving her kids to lessons, practices, and activities. She helped with homework, encouraged reading, instrument practice, and shared with them her many sewing and cooking skills. She was a 4-H leader and spent many summers working on projects with her children and other’s children. She also spent time on the Davis County 4-H Board.
Sister McFerson served faithfully in Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary presidencies as well as teaching lessons in all of those organizations. Pat loved and knew her Savior and taught her children to know and love Him as well. She followed in His footsteps by serving those around her with love and compassion. She had many friends of all ages who will miss her cheerful phone calls, guiding wisdom, and Christlike love.
Patricia leaves behind her four children Dee Anne (Jared) Squire, Laura (Devin) Prouty, Albert (Babera) McFerson, and Larry (Sarah) McFerson, her beloved grandchildren Conner, Emma, Heidi, Jonah, Kimbal, Christian, Reed, Taylor, Andrew, Robbie, and Morgan, and her two sisters Lynnette Hanson and Jayne (Scott) Duvall. She was preceded in death by her husband Jed McFerson, parents Albert and Metta Pieper, siblings Kaye Hymas and Albert Roy Pieper, and grandson Logan Aaron McFerson.
