Patricia Ruth Van Zweden, a devoted wife and mother sadly left our world on December 6, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on June 15, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois, a city that shaped her early years with its vibrant culture and diverse communities.
Patricia is survived by daughter, Melanie Van Zweden (Nathaniel) Conger; sister, Jean Braeckman White; and granddaughter, Ava Jean Conger. Patricia is also survived by stepson, Rob (Kim) Van Zweden; and step-grandchildren, Kyle (Marissa), Hailey and Skyler Van Zweden.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward George Van Zweden; parents, Robert and Ruth Braeckman; and brother, Robert Braeckman, Jr.
Patricia graduated from Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, Illinois class of 1970 and later attended Harper Junior College where she studied business. After a few years of working different jobs, she decided to dedicate her life to social work, which reflected her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
With career she worked her way through the ranks with the State of Utah in the Child and Family Services Division achieving the position of Caseload Manager. Known for her compassion and relentless advocacy, Patricia brought hope and support to countless families during their most challenging times. Her professional life was marked by a profound dedication, not only to those she served but also to her colleagues who admired her integrity and kindness.
Outside of work, Patricia was a loving wife to her husband Edward of 46 years, and mother to her beautiful daughter, Melanie. The bond they shared was a testament to Patricia’s nurturing spirit and her ability to inspire love and resilience. She embraced her role as a wife and mother, offering guidance, encouragement and fostering a loving household.
After retirement Patricia and the love of her life Edward sought out to travel and visit as many vacation destinations as possible – with family and friends. At times it seemed they were travelling abroad more than they were home.
As we remember Patricia, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. Her legacy will endure through the countless lives she touched, and her profound impact on the community will never be forgotten. She was loved and adored by those around her and those that knew her well. Patricia had countless friends and a lot of them remained throughout her life. She will be loved and missed every day.
