Patricia (Penny) Ann Mead

Patricia (Penny) Ann Mead, 57, returned to the arms of her loving Heavenly Father on January 10, 2018. She was born July 28, 1960 to Gordon L. and Norma J. Winget of Pueblo, Colorado.

Educated in Colorado, she attended Lake View Elementary, Corwin Jr. High, Central High School, and Ricks College in Idaho. On June 5, 1984, Penny was sealed for time and all eternity to the love of her life, Carl Wayne Mead, in the Logan Utah Temple.

Penny was blessed with tremendous musical talent that she used to bless many lives. At the age of three, her parents noticed she was able to play small tunes by ear, mindful of the moment, her parents bought her uncle’s piano, which she learned to play on. While in Primary, she became the Primary’s pianist and at the age of 12 she became the organist for her ward and stake. While at Ricks College, she was a member of the college’s acapella group and was a founder of the college’s Show Time Company. She was considered a musical protégé, having the opportunity to apply to The Julliard School. She was a staple to the community, using her talent to serve others. She taught music to many youth throughout the years at Kaysville Elementary, while teaching piano lessons to many neighborhood children.

She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a stalwart saint that served faithfully in many church callings, readily and cheerfully. As a newlywed, she served as the Young Women’s president in a very small branch, loved teaching Gospel Doctrine, and served as Primary President multiple times--she loved being with the children. No surprise, Penny always had additional musical callings. It is hard to know which calling was her favorite, she put her heart and soul into every calling she received. She was a true example of faithful service.

Penny had a warm, pleasing personality, and the ability to be a friend to all.  Guided by the spirit, she was a great counselor and mentor, with many seeking her advice. She always took the time to listen to others’ problems, and none would leave disappointed by her words of wisdom. She took upon herself the burdens of others, mourned with those who mourn, and cheered up many in their times of grief. She knew that helping others made her own burdens in life much lighter and easier to bear.

Her family was everything to her. She loved her husband, Carl, with everything she had. Her children and grandchildren are what gave her life meaning. She loved and served them with every breath. Her greatest happiness in this life came from being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She taught her children the paths of righteousness and gave each of them a rich gospel heritage.

Survived by her husband, Carl; their six children, Amber Hibbert (Jason), Ryan Mead (Candice), Ashley Steed (Walter), Alissa Mead, Quentin Mead, Alaina Smith (Braden); and seven grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her mother Norma Jean. Surviving are her father, Gordon L. Winget of Pueblo, Colo.; sister, Frankie Abbott (Jerry) of Highland; and brother, Rusty Winget (Kristie) of Orem.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the Kaysville Rock Chapel, 25 South 200 East, Kaysville, Utah. Viewing will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 Main Street, Kaysville, Utah. Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
