Patsy Valdez Alzugarat

January 28, 1951 ~ March 29, 2015

Patsy Valdez Alzugarat went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Palm Sunday after a long and painful illness.

Patsy was born on January 28, 1951 to Pacomio and Cecilia Valdez in Rock Springs, Wyoming.  She had three sisters, Kathy, Betty, and Sally and one brother, Patrick.

Patsy was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ogden.  She was also a part of Women’s Aglow and the People of New Zion Prayer Group in the 1970’s and 80’s.

Patsy graduated from Ogden High School in 1969 and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 39 years, retiring in 2008.

On March 21, 1981, Patsy married Bob Alzugarat at St. Joseph’s Church in Ogden.  Patsy was the love of Bob’s life and his best friend.  They celebrated their 34 th Wedding Anniversary a week before Patsy’s passing.

Patsy loved to travel.  In the 1970’s she traveled to Hawaii twice with her sisters and friends.  After marriage, though she and Bob “Never Got to Paris”, in the words of the “Out Of The Grey” song, they did enjoy traveling throughout the West. Patsy’s favorite spots, besides Hawaii, were Disneyland, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, and The Grotto in Portland, Oregon.

Patsy enjoyed watching Weber State and Utah Jazz basketball. Bob was able to turn her into a baseball fan as well as a fan of the Denver Broncos.  John Elway was her favorite until Tim Tebow came along.

Despite her sufferings, Patsy touched many with her wonderful smile, her joy, and her compassion.  Her sisters say Patsy was like their second mama while growing up.  People loved her hats and many called her the “The Hat Lady”.

Patsy is survived by her husband, Bob; three sisters, Kathy King and Betty Valdez of Ogden and Sally Valdez of Salt Lake City; nephews, Michael King of Ogden and Christopher Sundquist of Salt Lake City; two uncles, Jose Gomez of Green River, WY and Reuben (Josie) Gomez of Tempe, AZ; aunts, Eileen (Stan) Thompson of Rock Springs, WY and Helen Gomez of Green River, WY; family in Colorado, and many cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Patrick; grandparents, her uncle Ernie Gomez; and her aunt, Bertina Rodarte.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24 th St., Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

The family would like to say a special THANK YOU to Dr. Spencer Naser, to Nina at Porter Clinic at McKay Dee Hospital, and to James and the wonderful staff at McKay Dee’s Radiology Department, as well as to IHC Hospice, and to Patsy’s cousin Mari Anne Emden, and her daughters.
