Paul Alexander Avondet

July 30, 1949 ~ August 13, 2021

Paul Alexander Avondet passed away in the early hours on August 13, 2021, in the ICU of McKay Dee Hospital. He wanted to leave on his own time schedule and so he did.

Paul was born on July 30, 1949 at 3:30 a.m. at the old St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden, Utah to Earnest Charles Avondet and Jewel Vivian Larsen. He was raised in Huntsville and Ogden. He attended various schools including Ogden High School, graduating from high school and going on to complete over two years of college.

Paul met his wife, Terry Christine Dewey, when they were young teenagers but they both knew they were meant to be together, so on April 21, 1967, they were married by Bishop Joseph Hunter at the Avondet home. Their life together started out hard as a short time later they experienced the loss of their infant son. Helping each other to heal, they soon were blessed with a precious daughter. Paul enlisted in the Air Force in 1972. Following Basic Training and Technical School (both in Texas) he was assigned to Nellis AFB, Nevada. He was then sent to Thailand. They were blessed with a second daughter in 1974 who was waiting for his return. Following his return from Thailand, they were assigned to New Mexico and then Omaha, Nebraska where their second son was born. The next assignment was Washington, D.C. followed by RAF Uxbridge, United Kingdom. His final assignment was Grissom AFB, Indiana where he retired from the Air Force on May 1, 1992, after serving 20 years. They decided to return home to Utah.

First they settled in Sunset where he started his next career at the U.S. Post Office. After 20 years at the Post Office and his wife’s retirement, he decided he wanted to be home with her so he retired for a second time. They finally got to enjoy each other, raising their grandchildren, and all the joys life had to offer.

Paul is survived by his wife, Terry Christine Avondet; children, Lillian (Paul)

Cunningham, Brenda Gabel (Flint Murray), and Earnest John Avondet; grandchildren, Mark, Anna and Sarah Cunningham; Michael, Joey and Abigail Avondet (Alex Lesley); and Nicholas Gorder (Chelsea Patterson); great-granddaughter, Willow Mae Lesley; two brothers, Gerald (Louise), and Richard; two sisters, JoAn Steele (James), and Vivian; sister-in-law, JoAnne D. Parker; brother-in-law, Bryan Dewey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Alexander Paul Avondet; his parents; parents-in-law; grandparents, two brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, a great-niece and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
