Paul Wesley Bott

Paul Wesley Bott OGDEN – Paul Wesley Bott, our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away at his home on January 19, 2010 after an extended illness with cancer. He was born October 22, 1919, in Ogden, the fourth child of six children, to wonderful parents, William Wesley and Flossie Florence Bott. Paul led an exceptional and full life, touching all who knew him with a profound sense of love, kindness and joy. His ever present smile lightened every heart and extended to family, friend and stranger his instant love and boundless compassion. He has blessed all of our lives in a deep and personal way and will be remembered for the great good he brought to others. Paul's life was totally enriched with the ever-loving companionship of his beautiful wife, Avon to whom he was married for 62 years until her passing in 2005. Avon and Paul loved and were very proud of each of their 4 children, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, with two expected. Paul was a devoted member of the LDS Church serving throughout his life in many callings and providing significant service to church members and his fellow man. He served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission, as Bishop of the Ogden 50th Ward and First Counselor in the inaugural Weber State University Student Stake. He served as a Regional Representative of the Twelve and First Counselor in the Ogden Temple Presidency. He pioneered senior missionary service in Ogden serving with Avon in the Central City Mission where he presided over 134 missionaries. He also served as a Sealer in the Ogden Temple for 25 years. He owned and operated a successful business in the South Ogden area, Bott's Music and Home Furnishing for nearly thirty years. The business grew to be one of the largest privately owned retail businesses in South Ogden. Paul was always deeply involved in Community service. He volunteered more than 40 years at the local, district and council levels of the scouting organization. He received both the District Award and coveted Silver Beaver Award. He is most proud that among his sons and grandsons some 13 Eagle Scouts awards have been bestowed. Paul was a World War II military veteran serving his country as a U.S. Army captain in command of troops on the island of Guadalcanal where he was stationed for thirty months. Paul and Avon are the proud parents of four children whom they loved dearly: Michael (deceased) and Elizabeth Bott, Sandra Kay and Sydney Cragun, T. Craig and Pamela Bott, and C. Kimball and Dianne Bott. He was preceded in death by his wife Avon, son Michael, granddaughter Shannon, his parents and siblings Alice Mc Donald, Norma Bott, Peggy Heywood, Glenn Bott and Bill Bott. The Family expresses deep appreciation to the wonderful doctors, nurses and hospice team who have taken excellent care of Paul over the many years. Special appreciation is extended to Dr. Vincent Hansen and his staff for their sensitive care. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 25 at the Ogden Utah Weber Heights Stake Center located at 1401 Country Hills Drive. Friends and family may call on Sunday evening January 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
