Paul Henry Carey

Paul Henry Carey passed away Friday, September 12, 2014.
He was born in Winterset, Iowa on June 14, 1931, a son of Edgar Carey and Marie Leach Carey. His parents were farmers from Iowa before moving to Ogden, Utah when Paul was the age of 10. He attended Weber High School.
Paul met the love of his life, Joyce Anell Stewart in Ogden and they were married in the Community United Methodist Church by Rev. Augusta Jackley on October 6, 1950.
He worked for 7 years at HAFB.
In 1957, Paul and Joyce started the motorcycle business, Carey’s Cycle Center, which continues to this day. Paul was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, helping start several motorcycle clubs including Ogden Cycle Association, Sun Downers and Klunker Club – he is a charter member of them all. He loved building motorcycles, hill climbers and flat trackers. He also enjoyed taking those machines and racing/climbing with them and has many, many trophies from his racing and climbing days. He climbed Widowmaker as well as racing flattrack at Hot Springs Raceway and many others. He supported motorcycle rides over Skyline Trail and Hare & Hound to name a few.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Pauline Jones, Nancy (Scott) Jones, Patsy Winchester (Dennis Taylor), Diana (Sam) McCashland and Caron (Brad) Boswell; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter; and his brother Ray Carey.
He was preceded in death by his son Stewart, sisters Emma Matuna, Wanda Johnson and brother Phillip Carey.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 18th at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., with Reverend Haddock of the Community United Methodist Church officiating.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life in Paul’s honor to be held immediately following the burial at Carey’s Cycle Center, 4450 South 700 West, Riverdale.
