Paul Smith Lawson, 73, passed away shortly before midnight on June 29, 2023 at McKay-Dee Hospital of natural causes.
Born December 16, 1949 in Manchester, New Hampshire, Paul was the adopted son of David Kenneth Smith and Norma Dee Hawkins Lawson.
After graduating from high school, Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Technical Sergeant, having spent his time as a sheet metal manufacturer working on war planes, and then he worked as a civil service employee, retiring a second time federally as a supervisor in his section at Hill Air Force Base.
Paul was married to Chin Lan Liao and they had two beautiful daughters. They later divorced.
Paul was married a second time, to his co-worker and long-time friend, Dora Gomez Esquibel in May of 1985 in Layton. They had another beautiful daughter. They later divorced but remained very close friends and served together at the VFW.
Paul was a hard worker, a loving father, an American Patriot, and a loyal servant of his fellow veterans.
Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, being together with family and friends. He has property in Duchesne, UT, where he spent the last of his years building a place for the family to go.
He will be fondly remembered for his many qualities, including his undying loyalty to his family and friends, his ability to fix almost anything and his crazy sense of humor, not to mention his flirty nature!
Paul is survived by his daughters, Diana L. (Patrick) Robinson, San Antonio, TX; Michele Lawson, Layton, UT; Tiffany (Torrey Bennett) Lawson, Roy UT; grandchildren, Jimmy K. Manalus (Chanel), Kailyn M. Conat (Reid), Jene Fahie (Desmond), Patrick Robinson II, Deleon P. Moreland, Genesee D. Olney, Karson S. Bowden, Korby N. Bennett, Kash Bennett, and Kenzlee Bennett; great grandchildren, Miles Manalus, Ryder Conat, Anthony Manalus, Aviana Conat, Dominick Manalus, Gabriel Manalus, by his father, David Kenneth Smith Lawson, Smyrna, TN; siblings, Clarence Cushing, Stephen Kimball, John Kimball, George Lang Jr, Ralph Kimball, Anna Goodwin, Cheryl Lavigne, siblings predeceased Tom, Bucky, Peggy, Penni and by his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and fellow patriots.
A memorial celebration of life, where military honors will be accorded, will be held from 4 to 7 pm at Fred J. Grant VFW Post 1481 at 907 12th Street in Ogden on Monday, July 10, 2023.
Cremation is in care of Lindquist Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT.
