August 27, 1967 ~ January 9, 2018 SALT LAKE CITY

Paul Don Parkin loving son of Don Merrill Parkin and Charlotte Call Parkin (deceased), brother of Valerie Ann Hyder passed away January 9, 2018. Paul was born August 27, 1967 in Salt Lake City and lived with his parents and sister in University Village until 1970 when the family moved to Sound Beach, Long Island, New York. The family moved to Los Alamos NM in 1974 where Paul entered public school and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1985. After high school he attended New Mexico State University, graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor degree and a double major in Geography and Psychology.

During his school years Paul enjoyed outdoor activities including hiking and camping with his family, and skiing with his friends and father. He loved athletic activities during this time, including football and wrestling.

During his New Mexico State University days, Paul spent several summers working and rock climbing in Yosemite National Park where he conquered a difficult two-day accent of the famous Washington Column.

In 1992 he moved to the Salt Lake area where he continued his keen interest in climbing and skiing. He took up white water kayaking and enjoyed riding the many white-water rivers in Utah and Idaho.

Paul continued his education while in Salt Lake graduating from the University of Phoenix in 2003 with a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling. After graduation he worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Utah. Paul was named Counselor of the Year for the Valley West District Office in 2004. These years of furthering his education and working for the State were some of his happiest.

Throughout his life Paul had a great love for the mountains, the deserts, and living life. He had a kind and warm heart for all those he met. He particularly loved all dogs and his cat Bobs. He was truly loved by family and friends who will always remember him and hold him dear to their hearts.
