LAYTON a€" Pearl Ethelda Combe Jaques passed away August 17, 2007 at the age of 96. Pearl was born October 31, 1910 in Uintah, Weber County to Benjamin and Bessie M. Hartwell Combe at home on the family farm; there she learned hard work and hard times and honesty. She was the third child of four girls and one boy. She attended Uintah Elementary School, walking two miles a day. She later attended the old Lewis High School in Ogden where she graduated.

She married Melvin James Jaques on January 12, 1927 in Devil Slide, UT where they lived for a time, they then moved to San Francisco CA and then to Park City and Mountain Green before settling in Layton. She was supportive of her husband in what ever he did or tried; she was there at his side. They were married 55 years before he preceded her. Together they built a farming and top soil business and raised beef cattle.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and she always enjoyed the Relief Society and their visits. She made a cross stitch picture of the Salt Lake Temple which hangs in the Relief Society room. Her talents were many. She did oil painting, quilting, crocheting and sewing. Her real love was working in her yard and flowers. She loved gardening, hunting and fishing. Pearl loved her family and spending time with them.

Pearl is survived by her son, Dee L. Jaques, Mountain Green one daughter, Jean Vitor (David), of Layton. 13 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, two sons, Jim and Jerry, parents and siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1868 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and. Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the mortuary.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
