Percy M. Hess
WASHINGTON TERRACE – On Saturday, November 29, 2008, Percy Morgan Hess joined his beloved wife, Laverna Wheeler Hess, in death and began life’s greatest adventure.
He was born October 7, 1919 in Fielding, Utah, a son of Elwood and Catherine Morgan Hess.
Percy married Laverna Wheeler on May 5, 1940 in Tucson, Arizona. She preceded him in death on October 8, 1995.
Percy always loved discovering new people and places. He sought the best in others and gave the best of himself in return. He was a devoted son, supportive brother, loving husband, caring father, affectionate grandfather, and trusted friend.
Striving to be a credit to his Lord, family and community, Percy believed deeply in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Bishop for the Washington Terrace 2nd Ward.
Among his other accomplishments, he served with the U.S. Navy from 1937 to 1941; worked as a Quality Control Representative at Hill Air Force Base for almost 29 years; and was elected as a Washington Terrace City Councilman. Percy’s greatest pleasure came from serving as a Boy Scout Leader. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his service and support, which he gave proudly for most of his life.
He is survived by his five children, Samuel Lloyd (Diane) Hess, Jon Morgan (Colleen) Hess, Dan Michael (Kelly) Hess, Mary Ann (C. Douglas) Dewitz, and Nancy Hess; 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
