Sarah Karen Payne Huffaker

December 9, 1974 ~ July 26, 2017

How do you sum up two amazing people’s lives in just a few short paragraphs? This beautiful couple was taken from us suddenly on July 26, 2017, in a tragic plane crash along with their good friends Layne and Diana Clark on I-15 in Ogden, UT. Perry and Sarah Huffaker were wonderful, courageous people who touched many circles of life.

Perry L. Huffaker was born the fifth of nine children on December 7, 1972 to S. Leroy and Kathryn Huffaker in Ogden, UT. He was born to be a leader and had four younger brothers to perfect his skills on. He graduated from Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, WA and was later called to serve the Lord for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New York & Hartford, CT Missions. He completed an honorable mission for the Lord. When he got home, he met a beautiful red headed girl from the Ogden Valley on a blind date… she instantly stole his heart.

Sarah Karen Payne was born to Greg and Claudia Payne in Ogden, UT on December 9, 1974. The second child in a family of six children, Sarah was outgoing and had many friends. She was beautiful inside and out with her quick wit and unwavering beliefs. She graduated from Weber High School, attended Dixie College and completed a cosmetology degree from the Ogden ATC. Then she said yes to being set up on a blind date with a recently returned missionary. She knew Perry was the one for her after only two weeks of dating. They were sealed for time and all eternity just four months later on April 6, 1995 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Perry and Sarah were both incredibly hard workers in every sense of the word. They worked together to build a beautiful life and family. Kenzie, Caden, Jaxon and Aubree were their greatest joy; they are truly an eternal family.

Both Perry and Sarah had strong testimonies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and were devoted to serving those around them. They held many callings in the Church; Perry served as the Elders Quorum and Young Men’s President in the past and was currently serving as the Executive Secretary in the Wilson 1st Ward. Sarah was Girls Camp Director and formerly in the Young Women’s Presidency as well as First Counselor in the Relief Society. She was serving as the Gospel Doctrine teacher at the time of her death.

Perry could fix or build anything and he used his talents to help others. He was employed with Ogden City as the Public Ways and Parks Manager. He was also a member of the Ogden Trails Network Committee and the Ogden Pioneer Days Committee.

Sarah was a dedicated wife and mother and kept the Huffaker household running smoothly. She was a great cook and her garden and flowers were always well kept and beautiful.

To say Perry and Sarah had a great sense of humor is a ridiculous understatement; those two could make you laugh until your face hurt. They loved to travel and create memories with their children. They were both highly competitive, whether riding a bike or playing a board game, neither one could bear to lose. The smack talking that would ensue was always entertaining.

Perry and Sarah were called home for a reason and we know that we will see them again, but they have left behind such an unquenchable void, they are missed so much already! Perry and Sarah are survived by their four amazing children, McKenzie, currently serving in the Australia Sydney North Mission, Caden, serving in the Tallahassee, FL Mission, Jaxon and Aubree of West Haven. They are also survived by their parents, S. LeRoy and Kathryn Huffaker of Plain City and Greg and Claudia Payne of Panquitch. Their siblings: Jerilyn Huffaker, Shelby (Julie) Huffaker, Tim Huffaker, Nancy (Earl) Cole, Bert (Melanie) Huffaker, Thomas (Kelli) Huffaker, Ryan (Tanya) Huffaker, Chris (Leslye) Huffaker, Greg (Karen) Payne, Cori Payne, Josh (Amber) Payne, Meghan (Chad) Lay and Jessica (Adam) Stevens. Preceding them in death are their grandparents, undoubtedly greeting them with open arms when they reached Heaven.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 2nd from 4-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 3rd at 1 p.m. at the Ogden Tabernacle, 350 E 22nd St, Ogden, UT. There is additional parking found on the north east side of the Temple. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden.

The family would like to thank the community for the outpouring of love and concern shown to them during this tragedy. To help the Huffaker Children, please donate to the Perry and Sarah Huffaker Memorial Fund set up at America First Credit Union in lieu of flowers.
