Peter Harkins

Peter Dean Harkins, 66, passed away January 9, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born April 9, 1950 to Charles Francis and Velda Evyln Harrison Harkins in Mareline, MO.  He lived in the outskirts of Chicago, IL and the last 30 years in Ogden.

Peter served as an Army Medic from 1970-1974 during the Vietnam War.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Peter was very involved with the VA support group and trained and became Peer Support Counselor at the beginning of 2016.  He also was active with the Sober Riders Motorcycle Club Valley Camp in Eden, Utah and various recovery and support groups and their functions.

He loved riding his Harley and good cooking.

Pete was a born caretaker.  He was always helping others.  He was a loving, charismatic man that had a way of working his way into your heart.  You could not help but love him.

Surviving are his sister, Donna (Ron) Isaacs, and various “adopted” family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother, and best friend, Glenn (Butch) Deighton.

We would like to give a special thank you to the ICU medical staff at the U of U Hospital and especially the VA Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
