Peter Huerta, 80, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012. He was born August 26, 1931 in Ogden, UT to Gomecindo Huerta and Tomasa Huerta Garcia.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1949 and served in Korea and Vietnam. While stationed at Torbay, Newfoundland, he met Winifred Hickey. They were married at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on April 11, 1955 in St. Johns Nfld, Canada. He lived in San Francisco, Dugway and moved to Layton in 1966. He retired in 1970 from the US Army and was later employed by and retired from the Clearfield Job Corps.
He was affiliated with the VFW and the NCO Club at HAFB. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Layton, UT. He loved gardening.
Peter is survived by his wife, Win; sons Michael (Mick) Huerta, LaPaz, Bolivia; Robert Huerta and wife Cindy, Bountiful; Joseph Huerta, Salt Lake City; daughter Lisa Huerta Brown, Chandler, AZ; two grandchildren: Shannon Brown and Matthew Huerta; and three great-grandchildren: Hailey Brown, Khalia Huerta and Jada Elizabeth Enriquez. Also survived by sisters Margaret Montoya, Layton; Frances Pulido, Ogden; and Teresa Antista and her husband Joseph, Layton. Preceded in death by his parents, son John Parke Huerta, sisters Maxine and Mary, and brothers Caledonia (Cal), Frank and John.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 S. Chapel, Layton, UT. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
