Peter VanVliet, 89, peacefully passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010, surrounded by his family.
The son of Pieter Jansen and Magdalena VanVliet was born July 5, 1921 in Delft, Holland. He married Marijtje "Mary" (Riet) Herbert on March 22, 1946 in Delft, Holland. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity on December 14, 1967.
She was his sweetheart and best friend. They had three children and one baby that died during childbirth.
During World War II Peter spent two and a half years in Berlin, Germany in labor camps. After the war, he immigrated to the United States with his family in 1951, and settled in Ogden, Utah. In 1956 they became U.S. Citizens.
Peter was an avid soccer fan and loved to bowl and swim. He loved to be surrounded by his grandchildren.
He was employed by and retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Peter loved his family. He is survived by his wife, three children, Krina Hendricks, Broken Arrow, OK; Nicolaas VanVliet, Clinton; Marjorie (Steven) Wardle, Wilsonville, OR; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters.
The family wishes to thank the staff and doctors at Manor Care and Inspiration Hospice for their excellent care of dad.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 7th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family will meet friends for a visitation on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
