Phil William Orrock

Phil William Orrock passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah, on August 6, 1923, to William Marvin Orrock and Nettie Howarth. When he was two months old, his mother died leaving Richard, Vard, and Phil. A few years later his father married Venetta Stansfield and together they had three more children, Lois Fred, and Bill. They moved to Ogden where Phil received his education and graduated from Weber High School. He served in the Navy during World War II as a Gunner’s Mate. He was a part of “The Greatest Generation.”
After the war he married Bernice Child. They were married for 35 years. They had three children, Craig (Val) Orrock, Ellen (Jay) Eckersley, and Debbie Gardner. They have 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He loved them all. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Phil and his brothers, Dick and Vard, were very musical. Phil played the drums. They played in dance bands in their early married lives. Most of his life, he lived and worked in the Roy and Ogden area. He worked over 40 years in the insurance industry and retired from his career with American National Insurance Company. In his spare time he volunteered at the Golden West Credit Union on the supervisory committee. He enjoyed his association with all the people at the credit union.
In 2004, Phil married June Carter Steele. They spent the last nine years happily together, and he inherited many more children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed them all.
He had many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and dancing. In his later years, he golfed at Ben Lomond Golf Course with his buddies. He traveled to St. George to golf with his brother in the Senior Games. He also enjoyed great times golfing and hunting with his son, Craig.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment. Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
