Philip E. Griffin
LAYTON – Philip Edward Griffin, 87, died peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2008 at a local care center of causes incident to age.
He was born October 14, 1920 in Quogue, New York, a son of Henry Edward and Florence Isabelle Gordon Griffin.
Philip married Venice Ball was sealed to her in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in 1969. He married Arlene Paul Doxey. She preceded him in death. He married Jeannette Campbell. They later divorced. He served his country with honor and often joked that he had survived two wars and three wives. He was the oldest survivor of his family.
He was a longtime resident of North Ogden and had also lived in Bountiful, Magna, and Layton.
Philip was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a Bishop, High Councilor and in various other callings.
He was a self employed businessman and worked for the Standard Examiner.
Grandpa loved the outdoors, gardening, doing family history and most of all, adored his grandchildren and spending time with them.
Surviving are one son and one daughter, Philip G. (Rosa) Griffin, Layton; Debbie L. Twitchell, Green Cove Springs, FL; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, his brother, Marcus G. (Joanne) Griffin, and sisters, Irma “Chip” (James) Watson and Marjorie (Robert) Baumer.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
