Phyllis Jacob Austin

Phyllis Jacob Austin passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 27, 2007.

She lived a full and active life and ultimately fulfilled her vow, "I was born a redhead and I''ll die a redhead." Her family and friends will miss her love, unique sense of humor and boldness. There was only one Phyllis and things were always lively when she was around.

Phyllis was born July 3, 1920 in Provo, Utah to Irvin Heaton and Chloe Murdock Jacob, their third of four children. She married Roy Irl Austin on December 24, 1941 and they were sealed with their children on June 26, 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City in 1937 and attended the University of Utah and Henagers Business College. She worked for several companies as a secretary and stenographer while supporting Roy during World War II. The family moved to Roy, Utah in 1950 where Phyllis and Roy lived for the rest of their lives. Phyllis worked for many years as the secretary and bookkeeper for the family businesses of Basin Land and Livestock and Basin Land Development (Causey Estates).

She served in various capacities in the LDS Church, including teacher, Primary President, Relief Society President, and Young Women''s President at both ward and stake levels. She was a diligent, organized and committed leader. One of her greatest joys was sharing her testimony of Jesus Christ and serving her Father in Heaven.

Phyllis was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Roy Aprender Guild, and a PTA president.

Phyllis adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She played an active role in their lives and her posterity appreciates and loves her. Phyllis loved to travel and visited every corner of the globe with Roy. Phyllis loved to garden. Her roses were the most cared for and most beautiful around. She was zealous about health, nutrition and exercise. She was a wonderful seamstress, and enjoyed golf and bowling.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Roy A. (Marlene) Austin, of Westford, MA; Cheryl Howe, of Roy; Philip I. (Vickie) Austin, of Virginia Beach, VA; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Joseph, Don and Robert and her husband, Roy.

The family wishes to thank Peachtree Place, Willow Creek, Hospice of Utah and Joy Harris for their loving care.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1st at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

Friends and family may call on Friday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
