Our dear Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, Phyllis Handsaker passed away peacefully at her home on November 10, 2012 with her husband and family by her side. Phyllis was born in Ogden, Utah to Sherman Ralph and Mae Morris Schofield Mattson on October 24, 1923. She was raised in Ogden with her 3 brothers and 6 sisters and graduated from Ogden High School.

Phyllis worked at American Can Company before meeting her life-long companion and loving husband, Fred E. Handsaker. Their 68 years of marriage began on September 25, 1944 in Ogden, Utah. They lived in Watsonville, California while Fred was serving in World War II. Their son, Fred was born there. They moved back to Ogden, Utah in 1950 and to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1951. They lived and raised their son, Fred and daughter, Kaylene in the Holladay area, where they still reside.

She began working in 1970 at Evans and Sutherlund Computer Corporation as Dave Evans Personal Secretary and advanced to Executive Secretary in Personnel and Human Resources management. She retired from Evans and Sutherland in 1986 staying in touch with many special friends she had worked with there.

Phyllis was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Post 3586 in Sugarhouse, Utah. During her many years of service with the auxiliary, she organized many activities and held several offices. Among those were Buddy Poppy Chairman and Post, District and State President Offices.

She loved camping, hunting, boating, fishing and snowmobiling. She and Fred spent many years with the VFW bowling league and the "Card Campers" pinochle group.
