Rachel A. Valdez, age 92, passed on to her eternal home to be with our Lord and Savior, on February 4, 2023.
Rachel was born on November 12, 1930, a daughter of Elefio and Maria Antonia Salazar. Rachel was born and lived her early life in La Villita, New Mexico.
She married Alfonso Valdez, August 4, 1952 in San Juan, New Mexico, and shortly after they moved to Utah. Rachel lived the rest of her life in Utah.
Rachel was a loving Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister.
Rachel was mostly a house wife raising her children. Rachel used to enjoy going camping and fishing with the family. After the children were raised, Rachel traveled back East to various destinations with her husband Alfonso. She liked her Wendover and Las Vegas, Nevada trips and also traveled to Alaska and Hawaii. Her most cherished vacations were her trips back home to La Villita, New Mexico, to visit with numerous relatives and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Alfonso Valdez, their sons, Jose Glenn (Teri) Valdez, Wilber (Dolores, deceased) Valdez, John Valdez (Karen), Tom Valdez, their daughter, Norma Valdez; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother, Eloy (Annie) Salazar, sister’s, Angie Valdez, Patsy Montoya and numerous other relatives and friends.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents Elefio and Maria Antonia Salazar, sisters, Amada “Agnes” Medina, Alice Valdez, Virginia Aurelia Martinez, brothers, Isauro Salazar, Elefio Salazar Jr.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as pallbearers, Eric Valdez, Michael Valdez, AJ Fraga, Clint Valdez, Tommy Espinoza, Derrick Espinoza, Daniel Espinoza, Kai Valdez, Tyrece Holbrook.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton Utah 84041. Friends and relatives may visit family on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 6 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil and Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. Roy, Utah 84067.
Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah 84041.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Stroke Society.
