Ralph David Coombs

Our loving father, Ralph David Coombs, passed away peacefully at his home in Roy, Utah on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the age of 91.  He was born December 1, 1930 in Albion Michigan to Ralph D. Coombs and Helen M. Kreiger Coombs. 

He was preceded in death by his sweetheart wife of 72 years, Pauline Steed; his parents, brothers, Gary Coombs, Ronald Duane Coombs, sister, Sandra Matier and two grandchildren.  He is survived by his children, Carolyn Bennett, Charyl (Steven) Jackson, Cindy (Robert) Ross, David (Necha) Coombs, Shelly (Randall) Ripplinger, Debbie (Mark) Livingston; 25 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Ralph served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years from 1948 to 1968. He and his family lived in many places in the United States and had children born in Texas, Utah, Hawaii and served in New York and Colorado. Additionally, he served in Japan, Labrador in the Artic and Baffin Island.

Ralph was very involved in the Utah Civil Air Patrol for many years and sponsored cadets from Scandinavia and flew many missions while serving.

He then retired from the State of Utah as a Police Officer and at recovery services for another 20 years.  He earned a degree from Weber State College and the Utah Police Academy.  He loved books and learning.

 Dad loved to fly airplanes, travel and camping with his friends and family. Along with his sweetheart they served as camp hosts in Oregon and in Utah.  He loved the outdoors. He loved to take his children hiking in the mountains or hunting rocks in the desert.

His great love was in the service of his neighbors or those in need. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully in many callings including several missions in the Ward and to the Cannery (for years).

Dad loved his family, all of them meant so much to him.  He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Roy 9^th Ward Chapel, 2175 West 4250 South. The family will meet with friends on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
