Ralph Junior DeGroot
Ralph Junior DeGroot, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at his home of natural causes. He was 83 years old, born on February 10, 1926 in Ogden to Peter and Everdiena DeGroot. He was the sixth of seven siblings, who preceded him in death.
In May 1944, Ralph enlisted in the US Navy and served his country honorably during World War II in the Pacific Islands.
Ralph married Ruby Ann Day on March 15, 1947 in Elko, Nevada. They resided in Layton, Utah for 52 years. Ruby preceded him in death on May 5, 2009.
Ralph worked for the Defense Mapping Service at Freeport Center for over 30 years. He retired from federal civil service in 1982.
In his younger years Ralph played a lot of baseball at the John Afleck Park on Wall Ave. in Ogden. His hobbies included painting, golfing, and gardening. Ralph enjoyed playing pool with his friends at the Autumn Glow Senior Center in Kaysville. He also enjoyed taking car trips and just being with his family and friends. Ralph was active in the LDS Church and volunteered his time, including home teaching.
He and Ruby had two daughters: Michele (Tom) Jorgensen and Hallie (James) Kistler; two grandchildren, Jody Burnett and McCall Kistler; and three great-grandchildren.
Ralph''s family would like to thank all his friends and neighbors who were so special to him, especially during his last few years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton.
