Ralph Herbert Hadley

Ralph Herbert Hadley, 92, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at his home.

He was born July 5, 1925 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Herbert and Eliza Lydian Rose Hadley and lived most of his life in Roy.

On April 1, 1949, Ralph married Dorothy Mae Blalock in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 50th wedding several months before her passing on March 25, 2000. On June 9, 2001 he married Ona Beus Venable.

Ralph served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) and participated in the following invasions: Peleliu, Iwo Jima, Philippines, Okinawa, and Enewetak (Marshall Islands). He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 160.

He was active in the LDS Church serving as the first bishop of the Roy 10th Ward and as executive secretary in the Hooper Utah Stake for eight years. He served a total of four missions throughout his lifetime including one to the Southern States, one with Dorothy in the Canada Calgary Mission and another with her in the Ogden Temple for 10 years. He served an additional two years with Ona in the Ogden Temple.

After 33 years of service, Ralph retired from Utah Power and Light Company.

He enjoyed gardening, reading, tending to farm animals and spending time with family at his cabin in Causey.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Ona; four sons, Michael R. (Sami) Hadley, Severn, MD; R. Lowell (Susie) Hadley, Bountiful; Richard L. Hadley, Roy; Mark (Lori) Hadley, Melba, ID; one daughter Diane H. (Douglas) Ellsworth, Mesa, AZ; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. In addition, through his second marriage he is survived by Ona’s eight children, 38 grandchildren and 78 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his only sister, LaRue Street, Ogden.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Roy 30th Ward Chapel, 5900 South 3100 West. A visitation will be held with family and friends on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
