WASHINGTON TERRACE – Ralph Ray Yates, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at his home.
He was born August 25, 1921 in Onawa, Iowa. He married Jan Yates in 1940, and they moved to Utah in 1942. They shared a full life together for 67 years.
Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent many happy hours doing so with his sons. He also spent many days on the golf course. He loved to travel with his wife and for the past 23 years spent winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.
He loved people, particularly Asian people, who he helped escape from communist oppression in the Farr East. He was active in the Air Force Association and elected Commander President during the change over from AFA Wing to Utah State Association in 1963/64.
Ray is survived by his sister, Eloise Peters, his sons, John (Barbara), Randy and former daughter-in-law, Jill Yates. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Lisa, Donnie, Connie, Raymond, Tuan, Cody and Candace and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jan Yates his son, Roger Yates and his daughters, Sandra Yates and Susan Yates Brown.

Graveside services will be Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
Cremation under the direction of Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
