Ramola Leavitt Smith
Ramola Leavitt Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed gently from this life on March 21st, 2015. Ramola was the youngest of six children born to William Noble and Eva Elthera Hunt Leavitt on February 1, 1934, in St. George, Utah. She grew up in Bunkerville, Nevada. In 1952, she met her lifelong sweetheart, James Albert Smith in Clearfield, Utah, while visiting her sister, Orla Weeks. They were married in the St. George, Utah, temple for time and all eternity on June 19, 1953. To this union were born seven children, Eva Lynne, Barbara, Paul, Allen, Vernon, Phillip and Nicole.
Jim and Ramola had a wonderful adventure together in this life living in Kaysville, Utah, for most of their nearly 62 years as companions. They also spent a memorable 16 years in Fairbanks, Alaska, and loved to talk about their time and friends there.
Ramola was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and served as a teacher, Young Women’s President and Stake Young Women’s President but the calling she will be best remembered for will be that of a Compassionate Service leader. She was the kindest, most caring person, always knowing just what to do when someone needed help of any kind.
She loved to read and never traveled anywhere without several books in tow. She was known for her cooking, her love of games, huge family gatherings and her famous Easter egg hunts. She loved her family and was always available whenever she was needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eva Leavitt, her in-laws, Wilford and Rildah Smith, her brothers and sisters, Darryl Leavitt, Verr Dee and Ardella Leavitt, Van Leavitt, Orla and Lynn Weeks, David Leavitt and two great grandsons, Andrew and Daniel Glissmeyer.
Surviving her is her loving husband, James A. Smith, her brother and sister-in-law, Sidney and Bernice Smith and sisters-in-law, Patti Leavitt, Phyllis Leavitt, Beverly Weeks and Beverly Leavitt. Her seven children are Eva Lynne (Steven) Stites, Barbara (Stephen) Duncan, Paul (Lora) Smith, Allen (Julie) Smith, Vernon Smith, Phillip (Teri) Smith and Nicole (Jeff) Gabor. She also leaves 36 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Utah West Stake Center, 1035 South Angel Street. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
