Rana Hughes (d’Hulst), 53, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 14, 2023. Rana was diagnosed with terminal urothelial cancer in June 2022, underwent various treatments over the coming months to extend her time with family, and passed due to cancer-related health issues.
Rana was born in San Angelo, Texas, September 21, 1969, the daughter of David and Judy d’Hulst. Rana is the oldest of six children, Rana, Becca, Dan, Sarah, Nate, and Margaret. Rana grew up in Ogden, Utah attending Polk Elementary, Central Middle School, and Ogden High School. Rana graduated from Weber State University with a bachelors in Elementary Education.
While attending Weber State University, she meet and married Scott Hughes on September 12, 1990, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 32 years until Rana’s passing. Rana and Scott live in Ogden, Utah and raised their family of four children, Rachael Smith (Adam), Michael Hughes, Katherine Tovar (Andres) and Matthew Hughes. Rana loved to read books and cook for her family.
Rana worked as a homemaker using her education degree to teach and raise four wonderful children. When her children were on their own, she worked as a Librarian for the Ogden School District for nine years at several schools, most recently Odyssey Elementary. She loved sharing her love of books with children and watching them grow and learn.
Rana is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had the opportunity to serve in a variety of callings that allowed her to interact with children and adults and share her love of Jesus Christ. She was able to touch the lives of many people over the years, and cry and laugh with them. She strived to love all those she interacted with. Throughout the last year while battling cancer, she took every opportunity to share her testimony as many friends helped and visited her. The message she shared was to turn your life to Jesus Christ because He is the hope and the way to happiness.
All are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Burch Creek 7th Ward, 3680 Eccles, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
In lieu of flowers, you can honor Rana and her life by donating to www.utahfoodbank.org to ensure children have a full tummy, or by reaching out to someone you know who is having a tough time and serve them as Jesus Christ would.
