LAYTON – On July 24, 2008 we lost the most wonderful man in our lives. Rand W. Williams passed away from Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer, at his home in Layton, Utah.
Rand was born in Price, Utah on January 17, 1947 to Robert P. and Geraldine Williams and was the eldest of four children. Rand graduated from Granger High School in Granger , UT in 1965. He also graduated from the Community College of the Air Force and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Utah.
Rand married Helen Darlene Cox in 1968 (later divorced) and they had two of the most beautiful daughters in the world, Mindy Leigh (Darrin) Roberts of Clearfield, UT and Cindy Lynn (Brett) Dickerson of South Jordan, UT. Rand married MaryAnn Haskell (later divorced) and they had two wonderful sons Robert Mitchell and Rand Dylan Williams of Roy, UT. Rand loved his children with all his heart and they meant the world to him. Rand met the love of his life, Valerie Westphal, and they married in June, 2004. From this union, Rand gained three more sons with Val’s boys. Roque, Rodney and Jesse Westphal. He also loved his grandkids Ryan, Karin, Mike Chris, Jeff, Conner, Cambri, Kaleb, Kylee, Jack, Jayden and the twins on the way. He especially loved giving them all a hard time.
Rand began his lifelong career at Hill AFB in 1971. He worked his way up from mechanic to Branch Chief of the F-16’s and C-130’s. When he retired in 2004 he was the Branch Chief of the A-10 program. Rand also retired from the US Air Force Reserve as Master Sergeant.
Survived by his wife, Children, sister; Laurie (Steve) Sowby and Paula (Rand) Prince, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Robin.
The family would like to thank their friends and family for their tremendous support during this time. We love you all, very special thanks goes to Vickie for all the help and just being there.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Chapel, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Wednesday one hour prior at the mortuary.
Following the burial please join us for food and drinks to be served at a Celebration of Rand’s Life at 2721 North 2125 East, Layton, UT.
