Randy Yo Kawa
February 9, 1959 ~ March 9, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Randy Yo Kawa announces his passing on Friday, March 9, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born on February 9, 1959 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Yo and DeLone (Kaye) Kawa (nee Bybee). Soon after Randy was born, his family relocated from Utah to Orange County, California, where he lived for the remainder of his youth. In 1972 Randy’s mother Kaye passed away. In 1978, Randy’s father Yo met Marcia Bastron, whom he eventually married. In 2012 John Snow was added to Randy’s family circle and became a source of love and comfort to Randy.
A 1979 graduate of Italo M. Bernt High School in Ontario, California, Randy was always a source of laughter and friendship to his classmates. He was an amazing athlete, competing in many Special Olympics events and winning several medals. Randy had a tremendous heart and great sense of humor. You could always count on him to give you a hand or a laugh. He enjoyed bowling, music, dancing, and playing with his many nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Throughout his life Randy had several jobs, all of which serving his community. Most recently he was employed at the Brigham City Senior Center, a job which he loved!
Randy is survived by his mom, Marcia Kawa; brother, Micah (Treena) Bastron; sisters, Sherri (Ken) Lambourne and Raime (Kelii) Keanaaina; and several nieces, nephews, and a huge extended family who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his father, Yo Kawa; mother, DeLone (Kaye) Kawa (nee Bybee); and sisters, Tracy Kawa- DiConza, Robin Leversen and LaReina Oshiro-Perez.
The family wishes to especially thank the staff of The Gables Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility in Brigham City, Utah for the loving and special care given to Randy.
