Raquel “Rachel” Morfin Lujan
March 23, 1935 ~ February 18, 2022
Raquel Morfin Lujan, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022 in Layton, Utah surrounded by family at her daughter’s home. It was a beautiful day with clear blue skies. She was born March 23, 1935 to Eudoro Morfin and Cecelia Salazar in Mesa de Poleo, New Mexico. Raquel moved to Ogden, Utah in 1952 where she resided until her passing. In addition to being mom, grandma, and sister, she was known as “Tia Rachel” to many of her beloved nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed long phone conversations with her sisters and watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. She made many friends working at Iomega and bowling with the Forest Service league. In the summer she grew her vegetables. In the fall, she canned salsa and picked and preserved chile for herself and her children. There was always a stack of fresh tortillas ready when people came to visit. She was most happy when her family were enjoying her food.
She is survived by her children Nestor (Loretta) Lujan of Durango, Colorado and Victoria (David) Espinosa of Layton, Utah; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Isaias Morfin and Baltazar Morfin; and sister Louisa Martinez.
She was preceded in death by her parents Eudoro and Cecelia Morfin; brothers Cristobal Morfin, Urban Morfin, Jose Morfin, and Eliud Morfin; and sisters Eutilia Jongeward, Anne Sanchez, and Lola Salinas.
Thank you to Rocky Mountain Hospice, especially Ryan Petersen and Bonnie Mayberry, for their loving care in her last weeks.
