RAY D. JORGENSEN

1918-2017

Ray D. Jorgensen passed away on December 20, 2017 in Bountiful, Utah at the age of 99.  Ray was born on October 16, 1918 in Heber City, Utah, to Louis Jorgensen and Mable Duke. He was the second oldest of 4 boys and 2 girls. A graduate of Wasatch High, he was one of the last survivors of his graduating class of 1936.

Ray lived a life of service.  He served a mission to the Northwestern States Mission in 1939.  Upon returning from his mission, Ray signed up for the United States Army Air Corps and served during World War II in Africa and Italy. He was elected to two terms on the Layton City Council and served from 1960 to 1967.  He served faithfully in many callings in his LDS ward and stake.

Ray married his eternal companion, Betty Ann Funk, in the Salt Lake Temple on February 28, 1946. They were blessed with 4 children.  After the death of his wife Betty (1980), Ray was blessed to marry Wanda Parkin in 1986. They enjoyed many years together before she passed away in 1999.

Upon graduating from the University of Utah in 1949 with a degree in teaching and biology, Ray accepted a teaching job at Rich High School, in Randolph, Utah. After a few years he accepted a teaching job at Davis High School and moved his family to Layton. Ray taught from 1954 to 1981 at Davis High and enjoyed his time teaching biology, botany, and zoology. During the summers from 1955 to 1982, Ray worked for the U. S. Forest Service in the Farmington District.

Ray is survived by 3 children, Ray Lynn (Cheryl), LuAnn (Val) Morton, Dale (Michelle) and daughter-in-law Vicki (Russell-deceased) Jorgensen.  He has 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents (Louis and Mable) and siblings (Earl, Merline, Glade, Loraine, and Howard).

There will be a funeral service for family and close friends on Friday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, Utah, where friends may visit with the family from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.  Interment will follow at the Heber City Cemetery.
