Ray Smith Gibbons
9/28/1938 ~ 1/9/2014
Ray Smith Gibbons, 75, Riverdale, passed away on January 9, 2014 after a valiant fight with cancer.
Ray was born on September 28, 1938 in Marion, UT to Reno and Evelyn Gibbons. With daily chores on the family farm, he established strong work ethics and common sense. He married his wife Alice on November 27, 1959. He had innumerable friends and loved helping anyone out anytime they were in need. He was very creative, skilled, and mechanically inclined, designing and building his own cabin, T-bucket (roadster). He was a man of honor, trust and respect.
Ray always knew what it took to construct the best of the best; second best was never an option and it showed in everything he built. He was a true caregiver and was always concerned about everyone.
He was an adventurous sportsman who loved snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and various other sports, but most of all, he loved spending time at his cabin. He had so many varied experiences that he was never at a loss for a story or an adventure to share. Ray loved spending time with his grandkids and his positive influence reflects in all of them today.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Alice, and their six daughters; Bonnie (Allen) Bowers of Riverdale, Kristine (August) Williams of Pocatello, Karie Gibbons of Washington Terrace, Janice (Lee) Archuletta of Salt Lake City, Jill (Russ) Dean of Ogden, and Lorie (Mark) Ross of Roy; three brothers: Don, Jay, and Ken Gibbons; 32 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Ray had many great friends, but a very dear friend was Kirt Nelson. Ray was loved and respected by all who came in contact with him along his journey of life.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
