Ray Hanson

LaRay Hanson, 87, surrounded by his loving family, and listening to his Patsy Cline, Floyd Cramer and Marty Robbins, passed away at the home of his daughter, Gaye, on Thursday, February 10, 2011, of cancer.

He was born June 11, 1923 in Malad, Idaho to Heber and Charlotte Evans Hansen. Ray graduated from Malad High School, May 20, 1943.

He served in the Philippines and Occupied Japan during World War II.

On January 14, 1961, Ray married Evelyn Barnes in Elko, Nevada.

He was employed in civil service for 34 years. During this time he was stationed at Hill Air Force Base, TC Railroad Shops, retiring in 1981 from Tooele Army Depot.

Ray was a member of the LDS Church. He was a member of the Ogden Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 2472 and the American Legion Post 0009.

He enjoyed dancing, playing bingo, and taking trips to Wendover. His real passion was fishing, hunting and camping with his family. He was a man of principle, endless patience, and unconditional love.

Ray is survived by his sister, Helen (Gene) Thorpe, three daughters, Myrna Burbank, Marlene (Jim) Ruggles, Gaye (his pride and joy) (Blaine) Loftus, daughter-in-law, Jeanette Barnes, two very special grandsons, Chad (Sabrina) Stephens, Eric (Aubri) Caldwell, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, his parents, his twin sister, Lorraine Wakely, three brothers, Joe Reynolds, Grant Hansen, Darrell Hansen, a son, Kenneth Barnes and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Barnes.

The family wishes to thank Ray''s daughter, Gaye and husband, Blaine, for the loving care that they have provided him these past few months. Necha, Helen and all the staff from Vistacare Hospice for their loving care and compassion they showed our dad and grandpa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 16th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

The family will meet friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
