Ray M. Henderson
LAYTON – Ray M. Henderson, 84, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born August 30, 1930 in Holsten, Washington County, Virginia the son of Bradley and Willie Finley Henderson.
Ray married Shirley Walton in Abingdon, VA. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2013.
Ray served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years achieving Master Sergeant, and served with the 13th Bomb Squadron, The Devil’s Own Grim Reapers as a flight chief. He served in the Korean War; and Vietnam Wars. He earned many awards his most prized award being the Bronze Star Medal.
Surviving are his sons, Ron (Jeanelle), Scott (Jeanette), daughters, Sandy Butler (Jim Simpson), Mary (Dave) Shirra, two sisters, Elizabeth (Libby) Johnson, Margaret Griffith, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Walton Henderson, two brothers, Alden and Jack Henderson; and oldest son Wayne.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
