Ray William Phillips
1925 a" 2011
FRUIT HEIGHTS a" Ray passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by loving family.
He was born July 5, 1925 in Farmington, Utah to Dell and Ellen Phillips. He married Barbara Bourne in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 20, 1943. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1945 on an aircraft carrier USS Petrof Bay in the Pacific during WWII. After military service he returned to Fruit Heights City where he and Barbara built a home, and started a family. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 32 years. After retirement he worked for Fruit Heights City, drove a School Bus and loved every minute of it. Ray was an intrical part of the growth and development of Fruit Heights City. He served in many different capacities, on planning commissions, building inspector, and Mayor among them. Ray loved to be around people, he enjoyed talking and relating stories with everyone he met. He was always happy, full of life, and always making plans for his next big project.
Ray was a master gardener, he loved digging in the dirt, planting anything flora, and watching it grow. He owned homes in Fruit Heights and Mesquite, Nevada. Both homes were lavishly adorned with plants and flowers. He never saw a patch of bare soil that he didn''t think would look better with a plant or flowers.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, sons Craig (Laraine), Nolan (Jennie) Phillips, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters Barbara and Lucy. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cleo, Bernice, and two brothers Max, Dellas and one great-granddaughter Saibrynn Hamblin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends may visit family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the mortuary. Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
