Raydell Stone Cobia-Massa
Raydell Stone Cobia our loving mother, grandmother, and friend passed away from cancer on November 23, 2011, at her home in Pleasant View, Utah. She was born in Ogden, Utah June 26, 1929 to Clyde Ray and Lois Michelson Stone.
At a young age, her mother passed away. She was raised by her "Gram", Sarah May Hipwell. From a very young age, Raydell had a very deep love for music and the power of it. At age 12, even though not a member of the LDS Church, she sang in the Ogden 20th Ward choir. This planted the seed of testimony in her heart, which prepared her for membership in the church when she reached the age 18.
Raydell''s love for music continued through life, in 1971 she joined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir where she served for 18 years. In Raydell''s words, "Music is my friend I heard in my mind, "Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give unto you, Let not your heart be troubled, Neither let it be afraid." Music is my comfort." She sang in 19 countries in their native tongues, sculpting a deep testimony of the gospel, for her and her family. She sang at the feet of Prophets: Joseph Fielding Smith, Harold B. Lee, Ezra Taft Benson, Spencer W. Kimball, Howard W. Hunter, and Gordon B. Hinckley who was the advisor to the choir.
She married her eternal companion, William LeRoy Cobia in 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They started their new life together in Roy, Utah. After the loss of her beloved Roy in 1989, Raydell married Ray "Grandpa" Massa in 1991. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Raydell has been the model of a devoted, faithful, and loving woman for her posterity creating a "practically perfect forever family". She is loved, cherished, adored, and admired by so many and will always be held in our hearts.
She is survived by her daughter, Mindy (Don) Scott; their children, Aaron (Brianna), Austin (Kaytie), Stacia (Andrew), Shayln and Tyson; son, Craig Roy (Chantel) Cobia; their children, Jenna (Tony), Sarin (Jared), Spencer (Meagan), and Devin; 9 great-grandchildren; and brother, John (Ruth) Stone.
Raydell was preceded in death by both husbands, sisters, Cleo Rae Sidwell and Venyle Lloyd.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant View 10th Ward, 3602 North 500 West.
