On Monday, September 14, Raymond Lloyd Child passed away at Promise Hospital in Salt Lake City. Ray was born on March 25, 1950 in Ogden, Utah to Lloyd and Katherine Child.
Ray (aka ‘Bear’) was an accomplished athlete who excelled in football, baseball and track at Greeley Central High School in Colorado; and at Davis High School in Clearfield Utah (1968). He later went on to letter in football at Utah State University (1968-69) and Westminster College (1969-72).
He served as an active duty 1st Lieutenant in the US Army from 1975 to 1978 with the majority of his military career in Germany where he served as a transportation and logistics officer. Following his service in the military, Ray worked as a civilian, managing outdoor recreation services at the Armed Forces Recreation Centers (AFRC) in Augsburg, Schwabisch Hall, and Berchtesgaden, Germany, where he managed ski, golf and outdoor recreation programs. He later worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha, Nebraska, ending his career in Littleton Colorado.
Ray loved the outdoors, watching sports, spending time with his family and friends. Some of his best days were spent taking in a Rockies game with his wife at Coors field, fishing and hunting with his boys, or walking on the beach with his grandsons.
Most of all, he was a devoted husband to his wife of 43 years, Pamela Jo Child; a loving father to his two sons, Raymond Lloyd Jr and Buck; and a wonderful ‘Opa’ to his three grandsons, Logan, Cody and Caleb.
In addition to his immediate family, Ray is survived by his two daughters in law Tiffany and Mara; and his sisters Vickie and Kris, his brother Bob and several nieces and nephews and other family members. Ray’s friendships stretch across multiple countries continents. Ray will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on with those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
