RAYMOND EDWARD CROXEN WAS BORN DECEMBER 19, 1932 IN
POMONA, CALIFORNIA TO LEONA MC GEHEE CROXEN AND EDWARD
CROXEN.
HE GRADUATED FROM WOODBURY COLLEGE WITH A BACHELOR OF BUSINESS
ADMINISTRATION DEGREE, MAJORING IN ACCOUNTING.
RAYMOND JOINED THE U.S. AIR FORCE IN 1952 AND SERVED FOUR YEARS.
DURING THIS TIME HE MARRIED PATRICIA. THEY HAD
THREE CHILDREN, RAYLENE, GREGORY, AND RONALD. THEY
EVENTUALLY DIVORCED AND HE MARRIED D. KAY MALL-LEWIS.
AFTER A SHORT MARRIAGE THEY DIVORCED AND IN JULY 1984 HE
MET MARY HANESWORTH-WIMETT. THEY MARRIED MAY 25, 1985.
THEY WERE MARRIED FOR 37 1/2 YEARS. MARY ALSO HAD THREE
CHILDREN, RICHARD DOWDEN, ELIZABETH DOWDEN-BOOT, AND
CRAIG COTE.
IN 1964 RAY JOINED THE B.P.O.ELKS IN VICTORVILLE, CALIFORNIA
AND IN 1965 HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE POMONA EXCHANGE CLUB.
BEING BUSY WITH CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES AT THE SOMETIME HE LEFT
THE ELKS.
HE FOUND OUT MARY WAS ACTIVE WITH A LADIES ORGANIZATION
WITHIN THE ELKS HE DECIDED TO BECOME ACTIVE WITH THE ELKS
AGAIN.
HE HELD MANY OFFICES AND IN 1991 HE WAS INSTALLED AS EXALTED
RULER. FOLLOWING THAT YEAR HE CONTINUED HOLDING MANY
OFFICES.
IN 2002 THEY MOVED TO RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIFORNIA WHERE HE
ALSO TRANSFERRED HIS ELKS MEMBERSHIP AND AGAIN HELD
NUMEROUS OFFICES. HE AND MARY BECAME ACTIVE WITHIN THE
CITY AND WERE HONORED AS VOLUNTEER CITIZENS OF THE YEAR.
AS MARY WAS TO HAVE MAJOR BACK SURGERY IN 2012 THEY MOVED
TO ROY, UTAH TO BE NEAR A DAUGHTER. HE TRANSFERRED HIS ELK’S
MEMBERSHIP AND AGAIN BECAME AN OFFICER. THEY ALSO BECAME
VERY ACTIVE WITH THE UTAH ELKS STATE ASSOCIATION AND WERE
APPOINTED REPRESENTATIVES TO THE VETERANS HOSPITAL. THEY
WERE NAMED UTAH ELK STATE VETERAN’S VOLUNTEERS OF THE YEAR
IN 2018. RAY BECAME A LIFE MEMBER OF THE ELKS IN 2019.
HE WILL BE CREMATED AND INTERRED IN THE DIXON VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK,
DIXON, CALIFORNIA. THERE WILL BE AN ELK’S MEMORIAL SERVICE
TO BE HELD AT THE RANCHO CORDOVA ELK’S LODGE #2484 IN
JANUARY, 2023. A CELEBRATION LIFE WILL BE HELD DECEMBER 18, 2022 AT THE
LOCAL ELKS LODGE, 1875 WEST 5200 SOUTH, ROY.
DONATIONS MAY BE GIVEN IN RAY’S MEMORY TO THE ELK’S
NATIONAL FOUNDATION, GEORGE WHALEN VETERAN’S HOME IN
OGDEN, UTAH, OR THE VETERAN’S HOMELESS FELLOWSHIP.
