Raymond Marvin Franke

Raymond Marvin Franke passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 7, 2018, of causes incident to age.
Ray was born March 10, 1929, to Paul H. Franke and Helen Berkhausen in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was the youngest of four children. He met the love of his life, Louise Thomas, at age 16 at a stake roadshow practice, and they were later married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 26, 1950.
Ray served his country in the Navy and was a proud member of the Navy construction battalion, the Seabees. He was an extraordinary craftsman, a skill he learned from his father, which led to a successful career as a patternmaker and the ability to build his own home, furniture, and the treasured family cabin in the Uintah Mountains. Ray had a lifelong love of travel, which included everything from hitchhiking trips with his high-school friends around the western United States to exotic trips around the world with his beloved wife and travel companions, Parker and Lila Stoll. He loved animals and would take in any stray that needed a home, he loved his beautiful garden, he loved his Big Band/Jazz music, but most of all he loved sharing stories and building memories with family and friends. He was cherished by his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings: Helen (Ralph) Chamberlain, Ruth Franke, and Paul (Helen) Franke. He is survived by his wife, Louise; two children, Diane Franke and Karen (Scott) Kimber; three grandchildren, Kamille (Steven) McClanahan, Sterling (Ellen) Kimber, and Andrew (Katelyn) Kimber; and two great grandchildren, Eric and Annabelle McClanahan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the Oak Hills Chapel, 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah. Friends may visit with the family Friday January 12, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
