Rebecca Shaw Martinez

September 2, 1930 — May 29, 2024

“Thank you for the honor of being our mother,

sister, grandmother, and friend.”

Rebecca S. Martinez, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Ten years from the date her sweetheart passed away. She was born in Del Norte, Colorado to Byron H. Shaw and Rose Giron on September 2, 1930. She was raised at an early age in a Catholic Orphanage in Denver, Colorado, after her father passed away and her mother was too ill to care for her.

She married Bert M. Martinez in Taos, New Mexico on January 16, 1948. They were married together for 66 years.

Mom was a devote member of the Catholic Church. She was one of the founding members that raised money to build the St. James Parrish.

She worked at the Officers Club at Hill Air Force Base, the Ogden Cannery, American Linen, Sierra Lingerie, Cutter Labs, and the Utah State Welfare Office.  Her favorite opportunity was that of homemaker.

She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, sweeping, shopping, bingo, card games, fishing, camping, and road trips with her family and friends.

Rebecca is survived by her children, stepson, Thomas Nelson, Byron (Barbara) Martinez, Carlotta Ambrose (Dennis Dayton), Kathy (Dennis) Conroy, Annette (Merrill) Spendlove, Cabrini (Eloy Jr.) Martinez, Patty (Mikel) Jepsen, Lonnie (Jennifer) Martinez, Tina Billmire (Rick Bushman), and Shelley (Richard) Howe; 28 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 4-great-great-grandchildren; and sibling, Sarah White.
